The Difference Between Instant Coffee And Whole Bean Coffee

The Difference Between Instant Coffee And Whole Bean Coffee

What is the difference between instant coffee and whole beans or coffee grounds? Why can’t we dissolve coffee grounds in water?

The answer is quite simple to the above questions – Coffee Roasters bring in raw coffee beans, roast them and then package them as whole beans or grind them for the appropriate brewing equipment. On the other hand, the soluble coffees available in the market are called instant coffees

Now for the follow up question, what is the difference between the two?

Instant coffee comes in a powdered form, which dissolves instantly in water in order to provide you with a cup of coffee. Now doesn't it look like the best solution out there? But there is a catch

Since instant coffees are commercially prepared, most of them are made from low quality beans. These low quality beans are roasted dark to mask all the undesirable defects and flavours of the low-grade beans

The next step is to steep these beans in huge containers and brew a concentrate of the coffee. The concentrate is then filtered out, and dried as crystals either by freeze-drying or spray drying

Preserving this pre-brewed coffee in crystallised powder format is how our convenient instant coffee is made. This process in our opinion, makes the beverage stale, bitter and void of aroma

At Home Blend, we roast specialty-grade coffees fresh every day and pack it on order in the form of whole beans or grounds - this is the most natural form of coffee one can consume

When you choose a particular bean, roasted at your desired roast level, the coffee beans or grounds will give you unique flavour profiles such as fruity, citric, winey, chocolate, etc. The mouth feel, body and aroma of the coffee is unique as well

The only problem with Specialty Coffees is that one would prefer use manual brewing equipment like – a french press, moka pot, V-60 pour over, drip machines, espresso machines, etc to brew the coffee
